Materials Needed
Yarn: Worsted weight acrylic yarn (or any yarn of your choice).
Hook: 5 mm crochet hook (adjust according to your yarn size).
Tools: A pair of scissors.
Slip Knot: Start by making a slip knot and placing it on your hook.
Chain 4: Yarn over and pull through to create 4 chains.
Form a Circle: Insert your hook into the first chain you made, yarn over, and pull through both loops to make a slip stitch. This creates a small ring.
Move to Corner: Slip stitch into each stitch until you reach the first corner (the chain-2 space).
Start Corner: Chain 4, then work 2 double crochets into that same corner space.
Complete Corner: Chain 2, then work 3 more double crochets into the same space.
Next Corners: In each of the remaining three corner spaces, work: (3 double crochets, chain 2, 3 double crochets).
Finish Round: Slip stitch into the top of the initial chain-4.
Move to Corner: Slip stitch across to the first corner space.
Work Corner: Chain 4, 2 double crochets, chain 2, and 3 double crochets all in the same corner space.
Side Cluster: Work 3 double crochets (a cluster) into the space on the side (between the corners).
Repeat Pattern: Continue around the square: work (3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) in every corner and 3 dc in every side space.
Finish Round: Slip stitch into the initial chain-4.
Growing the Square: The process remains the same. For each new round, you will:
Slip stitch to the corner to start.
Work a corner pattern (3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) in every corner.
Work a 3-dc cluster in every side space created by the previous row.
Finish: Once the square reaches your desired size, cut the yarn and weave in the ends.
